New Nurses’ Work Adaptation Experience

Purpose: This study aimed to explore the work adaptation experiences of new nurses who underwent stress while transitioning into workforce.Methods: In-depth semi-structured group and individual interviews were conducted with 18 working at a general hospital from December 2018 February 2019. Colaizzi’s phenomenological approach was followed for data analysis.Results: Four clusters themes drawn meaningful regarding nurses’ experience: “Weakened mind body”, “Reaching one’s mental physical limits”, “Fighting back against stress”, “Assuming role nurse”. The most stressed during three six months following independence preceptor, after seven on job, they experienced some resolution by adapting human relationships their colleagues.Conclusions: suggests broad longer perspective which need adapt, both in relationships, overcome difficulties.
